THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO JOIN THE #HEALINGROOM

Please read our room guidelines before entering the room.

We ask you do this only to ensure you are aware of the guidelines and policies.  We do require that those who visit our room are adult survivors of childhood abuse.  In the near future we will be establishing a room strictly for the family, friends and support persons of abuse survivors.

ENTER OUR ROOM DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE
VIA OUR JAVA CHAT APPLICATION ON THE SITE

By going directly to our sites chatroom page you will be able to enter our room using the java chat application.  This is a very easy way to join us if you are not familiar with IRC or IRC programs such as mIRC.  Many very experienced IRC users enjoy our java chat entrance because of the ease it provides.   Just let the page fully load and then click the "Load Chat Client" button.  Do not do anything else until you see it has opened the chatroom on your screeen.  You do not need to fill in the nickname, email address screen that appears before the room loads.  It is best to let it load with the information that is there, and then you can enter your nick when you see you are in the room.  You will enter the room as a "Guest" by default.  The very first thing you want to type and enter into the room is the nickname you want to become known by.  It's important you do this immediately upon entering the room as we do not allow anyone to sit idle within our room or unidentified.  So, enter a nickname into the room, and then join the chat.  To register your nickname and understand the purpose of doing so, read below.  Should you have any trouble getting into our room, please email us at healingroom@email.com and we will try to assist you in resolving whatever the problem is.

How to get to our chatroom using mIRC

Right Click Here and select "Save Target As" to download and install an IRC Chat program called mIRC.
After installing mIRC on your computer, open it up.
First you will see a small window with a picture of a man (the author of mIRC) which says  "About mIRC ", in upper left corner.
Remove the check from the lower left-hand corner of this window and click the X in the upper right corner and you won't get this window from now on.

Now you will get the mIRC Options window.  It's a medium size window that says "mIRC Options" in the upper left corner.
Fill in the lower part of that window where it says Name: (mine has `John`) in it. Email address: (mine has meme@meme.com in it) Nickname: (mine has `John` in it) Alt. Nickname: (mine has Johnboy`) in it.  In short, provide only the real information about yourself that you want others to know, but fill it all out.
Now, at the top, just below where it says "IRC Servers:  All", It should say "Random US DALnet server " in the white area above the "Connect to IRC Server" button.  Using the little arrow to the left, select "Random US Webnet" or another "Webnet" server from the list of servers.  Since the servers are listed alphabetically you have to scroll towards the bottom of the list to select a "W"ebnet server.

Now click the "Connect to IRC Server" button.  As mIRC connects to the server you will see some text scrolling in your mIRC window.  After it is connected a window called "mIRC Channels Folder" will appear on your screen.  Remove the check in the box at the bottom of this window where it says, "Pop up Folder on Connect", now click the "ADD" button at the top to the right.  Where it says channel: type #healingroom, Description: Survivors Support Group.  No password is needed.  At the bottom of that small window put a check where it says' "Auto-join channel on connect".  Now click the "OK" button. Then you simply click the "Join" bottom, and you are brought into our room.

After doing the above as described, you will only have to open mIRC, and click the "Connect to IRC Server" button to be brought into our room automatically from now on.

Nickname Registration

Registering your nickname is recommended to anyone who wants to be a regular and frequent visitor to our room.  The purpose of doing so is that no one else on the IRC server our room is on can use or register the nickname you select for yourself.  Should they do this it is not available to you.  By registering it, it becomes your nickname and should anyone else try to use it that doesn't have the password that you assign to it they will be turned back into a "Guest" within one minute and the nick is available to you, its rightful registered owner.

How do I register my nickname?
Once in the room with a nickname you are happy with and that isn't registered to someone else, you just type;

/nickserv register <password> <email address>

example;  /nickserv register apples meme@meme.com

And send it into the rooms window.  No one in the room will see this information.  Its just your way of sending it to the server.

Note; You don't have to include the nickname in the line above.  In this example I'm using "apples" as my password and meme@meme.com as my email address.  You have to type it out exactly as it is above using the / in front of the word nickserv.  Note that nickserv does not have a "e" on the end of it.  Do not use the < > signs.  I only place them there to emphesis.

After registering your nickname, you will be asked for your password each time you try to use it.  On mIRC you can put your password in the auto perform option by typing /nickserv identify <password> in the Perform part of the Options menu.  In the java chat, as soon as you enter your registered nick into the room, you should get a little box popup that you type your password into.  If you don't get the little box you have to type  /nickserv identify <password> putting in the password you used when you registered your nick.  Be sure to use a Password you will remember!  There is no way to retrieve it should you forget it!
